About the Artist
My name is Miah Kylie Pearce, I am an 18 year old proud Wirdajuri woman and I live in the outer Eastern suburbs of Naarm. My mob and family resides in Dubbo of New South Wales. I am currently studying in Wear 12 for my VCE and plan to further my education once I graduate. I have been expressing my culture through art for approximately 3-4 years now and I have been able to complete a handful of designs for local football and netball clubs through my small business, Wiradjuri Giwang. I attend local Indigenous markets and other markets also and sell and promote my art on both canvas and other products such as keychains, mugs and other decor items. I also have completed multiple commission pieces for family members, friends and others throughout the years and all at different sizes and pieces. In my art I express stories of not only myself and my family but of others around me and their experiences when creating their own art for them.
About the Artwork
This painting depicts loved ones in the Dreamtime and them watching and waiting for us down on the land. It shows their journey from beginning to end and the new journeys being made from those of us on the land now. It shows gatherings of families and friends coming together to celebrate them and their new beginnings and the ending of the past. It shows how the past journeys teach and guide future generations to learn and express their culture.
