About the Artist
I am a multi clanned Yorta Yorta, Waddi Waddi, Ngarrindjeri woman. I was born in Swan Hill in 1962. My maternal totem is the Willie Wagtail from the Ngarrindjeri Nation. I work with various mediums of art which carry a generational storyline, for example I like working with ochres, different paints and have just started my journey with family generational weaving. I have in the past completed different techniques such as black on white print work, large acrylic paintings, ochre sand creations but currently have ventured in to using natural fiber and contemporary materials with my weaving styles. My generational storylines reflect upon my experiences and visions which show my connection and creatives shared with my ancestors. I am an avid collector of ochre and stones. I grind my own ochre into powder which I use in my artwork.
About the Artwork
When I was younger we lived on a farm. Dad befriended a large Kangaroo which came to eat hay morning and evening. Dad would call out to us to come and see. I was amazed that this Roo kept coming back each day. My artwork is based on that Roo.
