About the Artist
Chris Mongta is a Yuin, Monero/Ngarigo, Gunnai Kurnai man from Cann River in far East Gippsland. 'I grew up around the ocean, fishing, diving, camping and that is the inspiration for my work.
My grandfather Alex Mongta taught me about the art and its connection to culture. My mother Michelle Mongta taught me about bush foods and their medicinal uses. I'm always immersed in the bush along with culture and that reflects in my work.'
About the Artwork
The border is the pebbles and rocks from under where it lives, where the journey flows through the grain of the timber into each deep pool it swims throughout the mountains.
