About the Artist
I was born in Naam, Melbourne. Pop, mum, my brother and sister moved to my mother and pops Country to Dimboola after our dad passed away. I always loved drawing in school as a young fella. After dropping out of high school many years ago I kept drawing, and one day in 2000 an old canteen lady from high school knocked on my door she seen one of my drawings. I sold to my history teacher and she presented me with some oil paints a couple of canvases, turpentine and linseed oil, I really haven't stopped since.
About the Artwork
The 2 mythical brothers of the western Victoria region, gave language and law and naming of all living things around, they're also part of creation stories of Gariwed they speared and killed the giant emu Tchingal, fed on the egg with the wattle bird, then split the feathers in 2 piles to create the emu we see today, a downsized version. I put the brothers on water in a landscape with Tchingals head in a cloud formation.
It's good to put the brothers out there in a realism way of art. I remember hearing and reading about them in the 1990s, I like how mega fauna Dreamtime stories connect today, the English and European only heard of them after palaeontology was thought of.
