Titled Cassie’s Basket in honour of my dear friend and mentor who has taught me my first weaving technique. This piece is a homage to the power of women’s group, friendship and the honest and giving nature of one’s who hold such sacred knowledge, and pass it on to share in culture.
Yasmin is a Palawa and mixed race artist working and living on Bunurong/Boon wurrung Country, in Naarm. She is a descendant of the Trawlwoolway and Tyreelore people from Tebrakunna Country, North Eastern Tasmania. She has ventured from 2-dimensional works such as painting and printmaking to exploring handmade jewellery and, most recently, weaving with natural fibres - glorifying the natural treasures that can be found on Bunurong/Boon wurrung Country both seaside and inland. Yasmin also runs a small artist collective called Black Wattle Arts.
