This piece of art tells the story of everyone having their own unique experiences in life and being able to overcome the challenges and being able to see the beautiful outcome of life itself.
Jaynaya Basso is a 17-year-old Wamba-Wamba woman. Jaynaya grew up by the river on Wamba Wamba land in Swan Hill. Jaynaya has always felt creative, but it wasn’t until she learnt about her culture that she “felt creatively free”.
Jaynaya’s biggest influences are her Nan, Aunty Stephanie Charles, and her cousin Kenita. These strong, straight out women remind Jaynaya of how powerful her culture is.
Jaynaya’s favourite way to create art is by “doing it and not having to think about it”. In 2023 her painting was displayed at the Koorie Heritage Trust in it’s annual Youth Arts Exhibiton.
Jaynaya enjoys working with clay and different paint textures to tell visual stories. Jaynaya expresses her pride in her culture through the use of her favourite bright colours.
