I painted The Beach in January 2023. It shows people having fun at the beach with people in boats motoring about on the ocean, and other people having fun on the beach under the palm trees. It's getting later in the day and so the sky is showing beautiful colours as the sun begins to go lower. Scenes like this I paint from photographs and then add things to make them my own. When I paint a scene like this it makes me feel free like a bird. I can be part of the scene even if I can't be there myself in real life.
My training and education includes studying art at Moorabbin Tafe, Huntingdale Tech and the Collage of Adult Education Melbourne.
I have also taken painting classes at Prahran Neighbourhood House, and at Hampton Community Centre and with private tutors.
I have sold work through group shows, commissions, and the Koorie Night Market. I have won several awards in the Scope Victoria Kaleidoscope Art Competition 2011 – 2016. Two of my pieces have been acquired by the State Library of Victoria for their permanent collection.
Also I like acting. I did some acting courses at Prahran Tech School also at Huntingdale Tech School and around Victoria and also I have some DVDs to show people what I have done in the past. I perform with Weave Movement Theatre and was part of One Voice Theatre.
I had the honour in 2016 of being presented with the Creative Victoria Award for Excellence at the Koorie Heritage Art Show. I was also awarded the Best Achievement Award in Visual Arts, Inspire Awards by The Supreme Court of Victoria.
Recent solo shows have included “Old and New” at Koorie Heritage Trust in 2019 and a 50 year Retrospective of my work presented by Arts Access Victoria at No Vacancy Gallery in 2023.
