13 Grandmothers are known to be the keepers of wisdom, the peace makers annd savers of the planet. They carry Our cultural knowledge and wisdom, they are our spiritual Elders, they are our healers, our nurturers the ones who lead the way of Love and lore of the land, they represent the 13 planets in our solar system and they are the protectors of Life form itself. The Grandmother is the Matriarch of our families each carrying and sharing a special knowledge to heal, Love and care for our Land. I come from a deep line of Matriarchal Grandmothers who have embedded my Culture into my spirit...

Artist Bio:

I am a Palawa Woman who is very proud of my cultural bloodlines. I come from a direct line of Strong Aboriginal Ancestors, my great Grandmother Wortabowigee (Fanny Cocherane Smith) born on Wybalena Land to Traditional Mother “Tanganutura” and Traditional Father “Nicermenic”, my great grandmother was the first Tasmanian Aboriginal born incarceration.

I have been an Artist for the past 18 years, exhibiting in many art shows and exhibitions throughout the years. Working with different mediums from acrylic to ochre I paint on glass, canvas, and wood. I try a lot of experimental and different pieces that utilises our natural land resources, such as gum leaves, bush nuts, wooden beads, and precious stones.

My artwork is created through the sharing of stories passed down to me by my Elders and family members and it may reflect an experience or Journey I have travelled in my life.

Winning recipient of 3 “People’s Choice” awards from two different exhibitions. I also Complete commissioned works for local Businesses such as Department of Human services and Department of Justice.

I also Completed works for the Dja Dja Wurrung marker for the city council located in the Bendigo Library.

I have completed commissioned pieces for private collectors such as the Dalai Llama and the late Rick Steins.

I also had the pleasure of providing works for fund raising events such as – Annie North- Women’s family violence service, “Shave for the Cure” Cancer Awareness.

My career has taken me throughout many Aboriginal communities these past 34 years of my life with continued learning of my culture and other Aboriginal cultures within remote locations in Australia. I am in the infancy of my own Art Business “Macooloma Arts” which I manage part-time, while caring for my Grandson.
